L'Union des Français de Grande-Bretagne est une association de Français, francophones et francophiles établis en Grande-Bretagne. Elle a été créée en 1940.

L'UFGB offre un programme varié d'activités mensuelles : conférences, expositions, randonnées, visites guidées dans Londres et dans les musées, sorties au théâtre, repas, etc...

Visite de Guildhall Art Gallery

Visite commentée par notre amie Anne Tiger.
Many famous and much-loved pictures are once again on view for the public to see and enjoy in the new Guildhall Art Gallery which opened in 1999. The original gallery was burned down during a severe air raid in May 1941.
The new gallery displays about 250 works of art at a time, with a programme of temporary exhibitions exploring different themes and allowing many lesser-known pictures from the collection to come out of store.
Perhaps the most popular works in the Guildhall collection are its Victorian pictures, including well-known favourites like Millais’ My First Sermon and My Second Sermon and Landseer’s The First Leap , as well as a large landscape by John Constable, Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows . The Guildhall Art Gallery also houses the famous painting The Defeat of the Floating Batteries at Gibraltar by John Singleton Copley.

Visite de la maison de Charles Darwin

It was at Down House that Charles Darwin worked on his scientific theories, and wrote On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection - the book which both scandalised and revolutionised the Victorian world when published in 1859.

The house remains much as it was when Darwin lived here. The rooms on the ground floor have been furnished to reflect the domestic life of the family, while the study holds his writing desk, chair and numerous objects connected with his work. The first floor offers an interactive exhibition on his life, research and discoveries.

English Heritage has restored the gardens to their appearance in Darwin's time.

Conférence : Marcel Pagnol, par Eric Simon

Dramaturge, romancier, cinéaste, essayiste, pamphlétaire, historien mais aussi directeur de studios, d’agences de distribution, producteur, directeur de presse, Marcel Pagnol était surtout un homme curieux, éclairé sur toutes choses, à la manière d’un scientifique du siècle des lumières.

Eric, avec son enthousiasme habituel, va nous emmener faire un voyage dans sa délicieuse Provence si parfumée et nous faire revivre les moments ensoleillés e cet auteur marseillais.

Visite de Syon House et de ses jardins

Syon House is the last surviving ducal residence complete with its country estate in Greater London. Take a look round the the Duke of Northumberland's London home, view the magnificent State and Private Apartments and enjoy the spectacular Great Conservatory and 40 acres of gardens.
